Intestinal Parasites in Diarrheal Patients in Bandar Abbas, Southern Iran

Background: Diarrheal diseases are the major causes of morbidity and mortality in developing countries second most common cause death children under five years. The main objective study was to determine prevalence intestinal parasites diarrheal patients Bandar Abbas, Southern Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional conducted assess parasitic infections associated factors among with diarrhea hospitals Abbas. A single fecal specimen collected from 170 diarrheic October 2018 May 2019. diagnosis made based on direct wet mount formalin-ether concentration method. Trichrome modified acid-fast staining methods were used for better detection protozoa. data analyzed using SPSS software. Results: total stool specimens patients. Of these, 57.6% males 42.4% females. overall 12.9%. prevalent parasite Blastocystis spp. 10 (5.9%), followed by Giardia lamblia 7 (4.1%), Cryptosporidium 3 (1.8%), Entamoeba coli 1 (0.6%), Hymenolepis nana (0.6%).
